Some DO's & DON'T's which may help you with Website Design DO ...  Design for FAST LOADING - People with "slow" connections to the Web get bored when pages load slowly!  Design for CLARITY - Make it easy for people to find what they want.  Make NAVIGATION simple - Let people get from ANYWHERE to ANYWHERE within your site.  STRUCTURE your site well - Let people get WHERE THEY WANT TO BE with the minimum clicks.  Design for POPULAR screen RESOLUTIONS - Most people still use an 800 x 600 screen resolution.  Ensure Forms FIT on ALL screens - There's NOTHING WORSE than scrolling right & left to fill in a form!  Do higher RESOLUTIONS also work? - Try out 1024 x 768 + resolutions and make sure it's OK.  Make sure "LARGE FONTS" work - Try setting your PC to use "Large Fonts" - you'll be surprised!  SPELL CHECK your site - TYPO's are just embarrassing and don't reflect professionalism.  Check for BROKEN LINKS - Any PAGE NOT FOUND errors will just irritate people.  Try different BROWSERS - Explorer is most popular - but Netscape still have significant market share.  Make your site SEARCH ENGINE friendly - What's the point of having a web site IF NOBODY FINDS IT!  Be CONSISTENT - Having chosen a STYLE, stick with it! Constantly changing layouts confuses people.  Use your "CORPORATE IMAGE" - If you've INVESTED in a CORPORATE IMAGE, use your web site to market it! And some VERY DEFINITE DO NOT's ...  Don't use "FRAMES" - They might be easy, but you won't get indexed by the SEARCH ENGINES.  If you LINK to other sites - Open a NEW BROWSER WINDOW, or you've driven people OFF YOUR SITE!  Don't use BIG IMAGES or TOO MANY IMAGES - They might be pretty, but take FOREVER to load.  Don't use many ANIMATED GIF's - Too much screen movement is DISTRACTING and they're slow to load.  Don't use just IMAGES - SEARCH ENGINES can't "read" IMAGES - use appropriate WORDS.  Don't make your PAGES TOO LONG - People don't like to "SCROLL DOWN" too much.
